Dr. Greenberg performs iLASIK, otherwise known as all-laser LASIK, a 100% blade-free, individually customized LASIK procedure which makes LASIK safer than ever before. The first step in the LASIK procedure is creating a thin corneal flap. Traditionally, this flap was made using an instrument called microkeratome (blade).
Using the Wavelight FS200 femtosecond laser, Dr. Greenberg can create a corneal flap by applying tiny, rapid pulses of laser light forming microscopic bubbles at a specific depth of your cornea. As the laser moves back and forth across your eye, a uniform layer of bubbles forms just below the corneal surface. The corneal flap is created by gently separating the tissue where the bubbles have formed. This creates a smooth, even surface where the flap is lifted allowing the excimer laser to remove a microscopic amount of tissue from the cornea, gently reshaping it.
Dr. Greenberg is able to customize the LASIK flap according to the shape of your eye, ensuring the best possible results. Flap creation takes about 15 seconds and is followed by the excimer laser portion that reshapes your corneal surface with precision.
